Teaching
Welcome to my website. You can find a map of where I work here,
and examples from my CD 'The Tiniest Drop in the Ocean' here.
I have been a professional guitar tutor for overĀ 25 years (established 1984). During that time I have worked mainly as a private tutor but also in schools, colleges and universities. As a teacher you will find me to be extremely patient and understanding of your individual needs.I'm sure you will find the learning experience both enjoyable and rewarding, and will feel comfortable being taught in a pleasant and relaxed environment.
Lessons are tailored specifically to suit you as an individual. I generally offer one-to-one sessions for 1/2, 3/4 or one hour on a weekly or fortnightly basis. However, I will always seek to find a timescale to suit your needs.
I teach all ages and all levels from beginners to advanced, covering most styles including folk, jazz, blues, latin, rock and pop. I can teach a wide range of techniques including fingerstyle, plectrum, and two-handed tapping, and can also help with altered tunings. Songs, instrumentals and exercises can be presented in either standard notation or tablature.
Guidance is also offered in the following areas:
- Theory
- Improvisation
- Composition
- Ear training
- Voice training
- Preparation for grades- classical and rock
- Digital recording and sound engineering
As a player I have worked as a solo artist and with bands for 35 years, composing, recording and performing in Britain, Ireland and Europe.
